Understanding the APC Course

Providing nationally recognised third-party accreditation through LANTRA the ‘Airgun Proficiency Course’ (APC) sets the standard in UK airgun training. The course delivers clear, best practice guidance in the use of airguns to beginners, pest control operatives and recreational airgun shooters.
The theory element of the course covers key subjects that include, airgun legislation in both England & Wales and Scotland, best practice guidance in the safe handling and storage of airguns, an appreciation of the need to control vermin and the spread of disease, appropriate equipment selection – including types of airgun, optics and night vision. Understanding ballistics, marksmanship, trajectory, windage and retained energy. Along with an appreciation of which pests may legally be shot and what it takes to achieve an effective and humane kill.
To receive the LANTRA award, candidates are required to pass both an online multiple-choice examination and satisfactorily complete a practical assessment of their safety and marksmanship before an APC ‘Approved Verifier’ in their local area.
This groundbreaking, professionally administered and easy to access Airgun Proficiency Course is perfect for beginners to airgun shooting, pest control companies who train operatives in the safe and effective use of airguns and is invaluable to recreational airgun shooters who wish to demonstrate a level of competence to landowners, clubs and the police.
